It is not always practical to photograph raptors in their natural setting and photographing birds in flight does, in any case, present a number of challenges to photographers. These challenges are even greater when photographing fast moving birds like falcons.

Due to popular demand, we are offering, in addition to our Hawk days and Owl encounters, enjoyable photographic experience days here at our centre for you to come and get really close to a selection of stunning birds including owls, hawks, falcons and eagles, where you can photograph them in static poses against a natural backdrop, as well as capture them during action packed flying displays.

Typical Day Programme

• 09:45 - 10.00 Arrival, registration and tea/coffe
• 10:00 - 10:30 Briefing and introduction
• 10:30 - 12:30 Static birds session

• 12:30 - 13.30 Break for lunch

• 13:30 - 14:00 Introduction to flying photography
• 14:00 - 16:00 Birds in flight session
• 16:00  Close

Experience required

Open to all beginners, enthusiasts or aspiring professionals

Recommended equipment

• DSLR/SLR camera
• Ideally a 70-200mm or 70-300mm lens and a short lens as we will get close to the birds
• Spare batteries
• Sufficient memory cards for 1 days shooting
• Monopod or tripod - although not essential

Our photographic days are provided as either one-to-one workshops for individual photographers or to small groups. For groups we are limiting the total number of delegates to 10 photographers on each day. Discounts are offered to groups and camera clubs. Please contact us for avaliability, fees include tea/coffee and lunch, as well as the cost of the falconer and tutor.

One of our resident Falconers as well as photographer, Charles Joseph ARPS, will be at your disposal for the day to best advise you on how to photograph the birds. Charles is a freelance photographer, member and Associate of the Royal Photographic Society.

Accessibility

This venue is accessed over mainly level paved or gravel paths and some rough pasture so please do wear appropriate footwear and ensure that no furry hoods are worn on the day as this may appeal to the birds as prey!
